Eyes that see do not grow old. – Nicaraguan Proverb
Filipinos have brown eyes… This is generally, but not entirely, true.
Eye color is determined by inherited genes. We inherit these genes from our parents. Human eye color inheritance is a complex polygenic system.
In the course of writing this entry, I read pertinent materials regarding eye color and have come across articles on the the 2-gene model, although there are now three known genes involved in eye color. The 2-gene model explains typical inheritance of brown, green and blue eye colors.
However, the model does not explain everything. Even with the inclusion of the third gene in a 3-gene model, they still don’t explain everything, as eye color is not limited to brown, green and blue. There are also grey, hazel and multiple shades of these three. The molecular structure of the genes that control these eye colors are not known. Futhermore, most babies change eye color as they grow older. Why eye color changes over time remains a puzzle to be solved.
And so, it is of much wonder why this Filipino child, born of very Filipino parents with very brown eyes, has blue eyes…

Note: The author wishes to protect the identity and location of this child so the other details of the child’s facial features and background were hidden. The author will exercise similar action on comments that may reveal the child’s identity and location.
For years now, I have captured so many images during my short travels. Some of them, while not well within my standards, have subjects that evoke more interest and narrate more worthwhile stories. See more of them in this page:

I heard about a couple who had a child with blond hair. The husband left his wife coz he thought she cheated on him. The family of the woman traced back their family tree since the 1800s and found out that one of their ancestors was from Russia. Well, I can only wish I could have a child with blue eyes too. =)
Well, we could only wish for blue eyes…
But then, eye color is not really that definitive, and so we could always hope for it for our offsprings…
this is very interesting. I wonder and got amazed. 1 month ago naman, i have met a child sa isa sa mga bahay ampunan sa tagaytay. To my dismay and sobrang affected talaga ako nung makita ko yung mata niya. He has an aye allergy, nakalimutan ko kung ano yung specific na tawag don. He got it since birth, para siyang sore eyes, sabi nung kakilala kong opthal. hindi pa daw nagagamot yung ganun sa panahon ngayon. share lang. hehehe
Thanks for dropping by… Yeah, this is really interesting. I seldom ask people for their portraits, pero pinatay ko na hiya ko para humingi ng pahintulot sa mga magulang ng batang ito…
Nakakaawa naman yung batang nakita mo… Hopefully, he will be healed soon…
this is a geeky post so i’ll throw a question for you. hehehe. eh, if the color of the right eye is black and the left eye is brown, unsa ang explanation?
Hehehe… The explanation would be longer that explaining the possibilities why this child has blue eyes…
That phenomenon is actually called hematochromia…
It could be induced or inherited. If induced it could be due to some illness.
If inherited, it could be due to autosomal dominance or mutation… The exact cause is not really known…
interesting man ni.
Is this even possible?
Hello Miss ‘C… Yes, it is possible. And that child is as human as we are…
Thanks for visiting again!
I remember a story from the Daily bread that an american woman wondered that her eyes are brown despite that her parents’ are blue. In her later years, she sent to India to serve it’s people. That time she realized the reason why God gave her brown eyes.
Oh my. For some reason tumayo ang balahibo ko. Hehe
Wow Mark! Ka-haunting sang picture.
Thanks Edz… I was perplexed…
Bakit ganun? Parang hindi pa rin ako naco-convince na hindi nga nangaliwa yung isa sa mga magulang? Hahahaha.. Ang bad ko!
Sige na nga. Kunwari naniniwala ako na dahil sa traces of our ancestors it’s possible for us to get blue eyes. Eh bakit hindi naging blue yung eyes ko? Wahhahahaa..
Sorry Mark. Nangungulit lang. Para kasi talagang ang hirap paniwalaan eh. Haha..
Hehehe… Totoong purong Pinoy ang mga parents nya… Genetic aberration… Just recently I saw an article about an African-American actor with blue eyes…
nakakaintriga ang batang yan.. dna test! hehe…sana me blue eyes rin ako…at white skin complexion para bagay….. kaso i have brown eyes…im a filipino!!
Hahaha! Sana ako rin, blue eyes kahit maitim at pango ang ilong… Hehehe…
